This weekend marks the beginning of autumn, which means it’s time to bring out the landscaping tools one last time to start preparing for winter. Save time and energy in the spring, and ensure you get the best out of your property with our winterization checklist:
1. Remove any property debris
Prevent winter pests and damaging ice accumulation by removing leaves and other debris from your lawn, beds and gutters.
2. Cut back problem branches
Remove any large branches near your building or parking area to reduce the risk of unnecessary damage. As snow and ice accumulate over the winter, unstable branches can quickly become a property owner’s worst nightmare.
3. Seal any openings
Inspect your building and repair any exterior damage where cold air can pass through. Even the smallest opening can let in enough air to freeze a water pipe and cause catastrophic damage.
4. Drain and cover outdoor fixtures
Without proper draining and protection, fixtures can cause serious issues when temperatures drop below freezing.
First, turn off the valve providing water to the outdoor fixture, then remove the remaining water by opening up the faucet. Once properly drained, seal up the fixture with an insulated faucet cover. Insulated faucet covers are available online and at your local hardware store.
5. Hire a reliable snow removal company
Now that your property is winterized, it’s time to contact a reliable and professional snow management company to maintain your property throughout the season.
